Why John built MileVault
Every tax season, John Clerge sits across from rideshare and delivery drivers who worked hard all year and then hand over a shoebox of receipts, a guess at their mileage, and a bank statement. The mileage deduction is often the single biggest deduction a gig driver has, and most of them were leaving a large part of it on the table because they had no reliable log.
So he built MileVault: an app that tracks every trip automatically, scans every receipt, and turns it all into the report a tax preparer actually needs. Swipe to mark a trip business or personal, keep the IRS rate math right, and walk into tax season with the numbers already done. No ads, no selling your data, and a free plan that does the core job.
John is not a career software engineer. He is a business owner who serves families and small businesses through JRICKSS Financial Services in New Jersey, works in a paralegal capacity on immigration, real estate and tax matters, and speaks English, Haitian Creole, French and Spanish with his clients every day. MileVault speaks those same four languages because that is who it was built for.
"A driver should never pay more tax than they owe because an app made them do the bookkeeping by hand. MileVault does the boring part so the deduction is there when you need it."
John Clerge, Founder of MileVault
